Intro

Disclaimer: The Simgot Supermix 4 was provided to us at no charge courtesy of Simgot. However, this was done with the understanding I was to give my honest thoughts and opinions of the Supermix 4. The Simgot Supermix 4 is available for purchase here should you find yourself interested in a pair, or feel free to use your links.

I have had the fortune to try quite several Simgot IEMs, and they seem to be increasingly widening the DNAs of their IEMs and no longer focusing mainly on dynamic-only driver configurations. When I first saw the Supermix, I had to do a double take if it was really a Simgot. A 4 driver IEM with 4 different driver types is definitely what I expected. Naturally, I was excited and curious about how it could turn out. Coming into this IEM, I have had quite a few positive experiences with Simgot IEMs and most enjoyed the Phoenix, which was a 5-driver (1DD+4BA) hybrid.

Accessories

The Supermix 4 a polished packaging, as expected of an IEM in this price range. The cable packaged with the IEM feels quite thick and does feel of pretty solid build and decent quality. I like the thick wires and the aesthetics of the twisted structure, giving it a nice structure and durability as well. However, this would mean the cable isn’t as supple as others. Included is also a PU leather zipper case. The case has a hard shell structure and should do a good job protecting your IEMs from any jostling in your bag. Tips-wise, only one set of basic silicone tips is included. It is a little lacking in this department as compared to most other brands at this price point, though not an issue for me as I promptly switched to my favourite JVC Spiral Dots tips which fit well on these.

Build Quality and Fit

The buds itself have a resin shell and a brushed aluminium faceplate. It has an understated aesthetic but a coherent and sleek design overall. It looks the price and feels of decent build in the hand as well. The shells are shaped well and sit comfortably in the years for long listening sessions. As mentioned earlier, the quality of the included cable is quite impressive as well, so kudos to SImgot in this aspect for the Supermix 4. What I felt could definitely be improved is the provision of more tips for users to be able to find that perfect fit.

Bass

Bass was one of the stars of the Supermix 4. It has a very deep subbass-driven bass response, with a very nice presence. Mid bass is very well controlled and has a nice punch, and overall the bass provides a very satisfying and engaging support to the music and complements most genres very well. On more demanding tracks, the bass keeps up well and the decay is rather natural. The bass does tend to play towards a warmer tuning. The bass is one of the intended focuses of the Supermix 4 so I would recommend the bass lovers to keep an eye out for this pair and read on.

Mids

The overall tuning of the Supermix is a V-shape/U-shaped one and the mids seem a little on the recessed side. Vocals are not as forward as I usually prefer so this is what I am used to. The mids are more relaxed and make more room for the bass and highs to shine. That said, the mids don’t sound wonky and do the job just fine with a decent midrange tonality for both vocals and instruments. I especially enjoyed listening to the different instrument melodies in the Broadway recording of Aladdin. The clarity and tonality of the instruments like the violins and oboe are quite satisfying and carry a good amount of energy and liveliness to them too. The clarity of vocals and musical lines is quite good at this price point as well.

Highs

The highs are the most contradicting (or stand out) portion of the tuning. Through most of the tuning, the Supermix 4 is on the warmer side. However, the Piezo drivers on the Supermix are quite sparkly and come through quite noticeably. This can be a little fatiguing on certain tracks with a lot of high hats and cymbals. It doesn’t hit the sore spot of sibilance for me though so it isn’t much of an issue. The upper mids and the lower treble are where most of this energy resides and don’t seem to extend too high up. Those who would prefer some treble energy and better micro details might like this aspect of the Supermix 4 though. It does help the tuning become more engaging and exciting to provide some contrast against the powerful and dominant lower-end response.

Overall

The Supermix 4 seems to have a vent at the faceplate, not sure of the intended purpose of the vent or if it is merely aesthetic. The Supermix 4 has an average soundstage and imaging. The separation is quite good and well meeting expectations in this department at this price range. Tonality is quite natural as well for the most part except for the treble on select tracks.

Conclusion

The Supermix 4 is quite a solid option for a do-it-all IEM, especially for those in the market for a V-shaped/U-shaped tuning. It has a great bass response, good detail retrieval, decent tonality, and build quality-wise offers a well-built IEM. Nothing stands out for me to criticise too much. For bass lovers, this pair would not disappoint. It provides great detail and clarity to ensure you aren’t compromising on the rest of the music just for that satisfying oomph. I certainly enjoyed the Supermix 4 and this is one of the more unique yet excellent releases from Simgot I’ve had the chance to review.

I would call this an overall success with such a bold undertaking of blending 4 very different driver types to give such a coherent tuning. I genuinely think that this product is really well-designed and has great potential with a great tuning that isn’t too niche and one that many can enjoy.
